A full-size, double-sided traditional Punjabi dhol drum, known for its deep bass and sharp treble tones. This iconic drum is essential for Bhangra, weddings, folk music, and festival celebrations. The dhol’s barrel-shaped body is crafted from seasoned mango or sheesham wood for durability and rich resonance. Both ends are covered with natural animal skin (goat for sharp “treble,” buffalo or synthetic for “bass”) and secured by strong laced rope or steel tuning rings. Rope or bolt tuning is used for precise pitch and robust sound. Typically played with wooden sticks (dagga and tilli), and commonly slung from the shoulder with a woven cotton strap. Classic artisan craftsmanship makes each drum unique, with slight variations in size and finish.
